Butterfly Class News for December 15 - 19

The concert was amazing!
Thank you for attending and bringing your kids so they could show you how hard they had been working on learning their songs. It was wonderful to see all of you. And a HUGE THANK YOU to Rob Melton (one of our Butterfly parents) for playing both nights. We really appreciate you!
This is our last week before break!
Wow, time is flying by so fast.
This week, we are going to be making Holiday Forests on Thursday and Friday (the 18th and 19th). We will be making them as the kids arrive, so if you would like to stay and create your child's forest with them, we would love it! Check out the sign-up sheet outside the classroom for supplies for the forests. We will also be having story and movie time with the other classrooms those days.
Tree and candy cane projects are on the lesson plan for this week, as well reading some fun and silly holiday stories. We will be talking about our 2 weeks off, and what they are looking forward to this holiday season. We hope you all have a wonderful, safe, and restful break!

Mark your calendars for January 6th, from 6:30 - 7:30pm, for our Little Acorn Parent/Board Meet-and-Greet. If you are planning on attending, please RSVP in the office by Monday, January 5th. It's a great opportunity to meet our board members, get to know each other, and build a stronger school community.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!
Winter Concert
It's finally here! Our concert will be held on Tuesday, Dec 9, at 6pm. Please drop your children off at the classroom at 5:45, after taking them to the restroom.  Then head on up to the sanctuary to get a spot to watch your kiddos. We have been working hard on our songs, and the kids are so excited to sing them for you. Can't wait to see you there!

Thanks to everyone who attended the Santa breakfast on Saturday. It was so much fun to see the kids excitement over the books Santa gave them. Thank you to everyone that helped make the morning run smoothly. What an awesome group of families we have this year. We hope you all had as much fun as we did!


This week
Reindeer, stars, and ornaments are on the agenda this week. We have a lot of fun art projects planned, as well as plenty of time for excercise. The kids are so excited about the holidays, and we need time to get those wiggles out!

Traditions
Please let us know if you have any family traditions you would like to share with our class sometime in the next two weeks. It could be anything - a story you always read, an art project, a cooking project, etc. Just talk to us about planning a time to come into the classroom.

Three more weeks until Winter Break. Wow! Time is flying!

This week is going to be super fun! We are going to be working on a SECRET project that the kids will be bringing home during the last week before Winter Break. We will also be doing a lot of art projects to decorate our classroom, and learning about the letter H.
I hope everyone had a restful and lovely holiday break with family and friends. The kids enjoyed learning about turkeys during our short week last week. Thank you to all who donated to the bake sale. I hope you enjoyed any goodies you took home.
TRADITIONS

Over the next three weeks, we will be doing a lot of holiday projects and talking about what we doing during the holidays. We would like to invite you to come into the classroom and talk about any traditions you have during this time of year. If you have a story you always read, a cooking project, an art project, etc. you would like to share with us, just talk to Teacher Jaylene to plan a time to come in to the classroom. We can't wait to share this time of year with you!

We will be making friendship mix, doing some fun turkey projects, working on our numbers 1 - 5, and continuing to practice our winter concert songs. Watch for a My Big World booklet to come home with your child this week. 
We have a SHORT week this week. Class will be held Monday and Tuesday, November 24 and 25. There is no school Wednesday through Friday, November 26-28. Enjoy your time with family and friends on this Thanksgiving holiday!

Bake Sale
Our holiday bake sale will be this Monday and Tuesday, November 24 - 25. Bring in something yummy to donate for the sale, buy something yummy to add to your holiday feast or give as a gift, and get some volunteer time covered by helping to sell the goodies. Teacher Katie has a sign-up sheet in the office.

Week of November 17 - 21
 
Family Fun Night
This Friday, November 21, from 5:30-7:00 is our Holiday Make-and-Take Family Fun Night. Come make some holiday crafts with your kids, chat with the teachers, take photos in the photo booth and have fun with your school friends! We would love to see you there!

Last Week
Thank you to all of our families for being so flexible with the weather! We still had a great week in the Butterfly class, and had fun making bats and owls, learning how they are different than us, and singing our winter concert songs. The kids are learning the songs so quickly. Are you hearing them sing any of them at home? Also, make sure to check out the owl projects hanging in the hallway across from the classroom. They turned out great!
 
Winter Concert
Make sure to mark your calendars for the Winter concert which will be held on Tuesday, December 9. We are looking for a pianist for both concerts - Monday, December 8 and Tuesday, December 9. If you or someone you know are willing and able to volunteer to accompany our Little Acorn concerts, please let Katie know. Thanks!

We also have a Butterfly class list set-up. I will send that info in the next newsletter, or check out the sheet posted outside the classroom.

Canned Food Drive
We are currently collecting food in conjunction with the church to provide baskets for those in our community in need. Thank you to those who have already donated. Our box outside the classroom is almost full. We will empty it, pass it along to the church who is assembling the baskets, and continue to collect food through December 19.

Bake Sale
Our holiday bake sale will be November 24th & 25th during school hours. Every year there is always something delicious that catches my eye! Feel free to donate some yummy goodies for the sale, as well as buy some fun treats for your family. If you want to volunteer to help run the sale, talk to Teacher Katie in the office.

Santa Breakfast
Santa Breakfast: Back by popular demand! I am pleased to announce that we will have our Santa Breakfast on 12/6, from 9-11am.  Santa will give a gift to each child who attends. Breakfast will be $3.00 for kids and $5.00 for adults. We will need help making and serving breakfast, with set-up, and clean-up. This is a great chance for to fill some volunteer time.Tickets will be on sale: 11/17-12/4.

This Week
We are going to be talking about what we are thankful for and making a fun take-home project that you can use to continue the discussion at home over your Thanksgiving holiday. We will also be working on the letter G, continuing to practice writing our numbers, as well as singing our concert songs. We will also be catching any of the kids up on their portfolio projects from last week, since it wasn't quite the week we all expected with the weather! I can't believe how fast the year is flying. Here's to a fantastic week!

Week of November 10 - 14
 
Don't forget - there is NO SCHOOL on Tuesday, November 11, in commemoration of Veteran's Day! We will see you Monday, and then Wednesday - Friday this week.
 
It's bat and owl week! We will be doing a lot of fun projects about bats and owls, learning about the letter F, working hard to learn our songs for the Winter Concert coming up in December. Mark your calendars for Tuesday, December 9. You won't want to miss it!
Thank You!
Thanks to all the parents who were able to make it to Parent/Teacher conferences. It was great to see all of you and talk to you about your amazing children.

Last Week
We talked about spiders last week and learned that they are not insects, but arachnids. We also learned they are really good for our gardens because they eat the bugs that like to hurt our plants.

LAPSK Board/Parent Meet-and-Greet
On Thursday, November 13, from 9-10am, parents will have the opportunity to come meet our board members and voice their thoughts in a constructive, respectful, and supportive way. The meeting will take place in the Conrad room. There will be a second Meet-and-Greet in January in the evening for anyone who cannot attend November's meeting.

Date Change - Please Note!
The date for our Family Fun Night has changed from Thursday, November 20, to FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 21 from 5:30 - 7:00. It's our Holiday Make-and-Take night.

Canned Food Drive
We are starting our church-partnered canned food drive. We will be collecting food through December 19 for those in our community in need. The church will build baskets for both Thanksgiving and Christmas.
 
Winter Concert
We are going to start practicing our songs for the Winter concert which will be held on Tuesday, December 9. We are looking for a pianist for both concerts - Monday, December 8 and Tuesday, December 9.
