We talked a lot about what is REAL vs. PRETEND last week, and enjoyed reading some silly monster and ghost stories. Our Halloween parties were a success. Thank you to all the parents who sent in food and treats, as well as came and helped set-up. You guys rock!

This Week
We have a short week this week. We will be learning about spiders, writing spider stories for our portfolios, making our own spiders, and patterning with spiders. We will be reviewing letters A, B, C, D, and E. Teacher Jaylene will also be finishing up assessments in preparation for conferences.

Conferences
I am looking forward to talking with all of the parents about their awesome kids! We have a great class this year. Please let me know if you don't remember when you signed up for conferences. Just email or text me, and I will get back to you promptly.

Winter Concert
We are going to start practicing our songs for the Winter concert which will be held on Tuesday, December 9. We are looking for a pianist for both concerts - Monday, December 8 and Tuesday, December 9. If you or someone you know are willing and able to volunteer to accompany our Little Acorn concerts, please let Teacher Katie know. Thanks!

Butterfly class new October 27-31, 2014

Our Halloween parties and parades will be this week Thursday and Friday. Your child is welcome to come in costume.
Butterfly Class News

Week of October 27 - 31

Last Week

We had so much fun last week digging into our class pumpkin to investigate what was inside, as well as sharing our cooking project with our Busy Bee friends. We also made our own pumpkin patch, and learned The 5 Little Pumpkins.

This Week

We are moving on to Real vs. Pretend this week. We will be making squish art monsters and telling stories about them. Our Halloween parties will be on Thursday and Friday this week. Please look for the sign-up sheets outside the classroom to sign-up for something to bring. We will be looking for a few parents to come back early and help set up for our party on both days, while we are playing in the playroom. The students can come in costume on Thursday and Friday, as we will be parading through the school and walking across to Kindred to parade and sing.  Teacher Jaylene will continue assessments in preparation for Parent/Teacher conferences the following week.

Conferences

If you haven't signed up for conferences, check out the sign-up sheet outside the classroom. They will be held on Thursday, November 6. Let me know if that day doesn't work for your schedule. We can find another time to meet, either before or after school one day.

Portfolios

We only need a few more binders for our portfolios. If you haven't brought one in yet, this would be a great week to do so. Thanks!

Illness

Don't forget to call and let us know if your child is sick and won't be at school. You can call the office directly at 360-693-5614 and leave a message for Teacher Katie. You can also text Teacher Jaylene at 360-624-3673.

Word Wall--Letter E Week

It's E for egg, eat, and elephant this week. Children may bring in something to share that starts with the letter E. We have a basket in the classroom to keep things safe until we share them at closing circle. Your child is welcome to bring something each day they attend class.

2014-2015

If you are considering adding any days to your child's enrollment, we still have spots available in the Butterfly Class. I'd be happy to talk to you about it, or you can stop by and see Katie in the office. Also, if you know anyone who is thinking of looking for a preschool this year, let them know it’s not too late to start. We love making new friends even after the first day of school!

Thank you for sharing your children with us -

Five Little Pumpkins

Five little pumpkins, sitting on a gate.

The first one says, "Oh, my, it's getting late."

The second one says, "There's a chill in the air."

The third one says, "But we don't care."

The fourth one says, "I'm ready for some fun."

The fifth one says, "Let's run and run and run!"

Oooooo went the wind and out went the lights.

And the five little pumpkins rolled our of sight.

We will investigate what is inside a pumpkin, pound a pumpkin, pattern with pumpkins, and write a story about the pumpkin patch. Stamping with apples, glitter painting our A is for Apple, beginning our ABC journals, and finding the A's on the A Tree were all a hit. It was so fun to see the kids contemplate the concept of the seasons as we talked about how trees change and are different each season. We also started focusing on following directions when doing projects and work. Also, thank you to Teacher Caroline for coming in on Friday for our first Language Friday and doing circle time in spanish. We are looking forward to her coming in again this week.

This Week
Fall is in the air, kind of, but even if it is 80 degrees outside, we are going to talk about leaves and the changes we see happening. So fall it is, with a scavanger hunt planned, watercolor leaves, handprint leaves for our classroom tree, as well as some cutting practice and left/right patterning.

Five Little Leavesand
THE LEAVES ON THE TREES
Tune:  “The Wheels On The Bus”
The Leaves on the trees are yellow and brown,
Yellow and brown, yellow and brown.
The leaves on the trees are yellow and brown,
All through the town.
The leaves on the trees are falling down,
Falling down, falling down.
The leaves on the trees are falling down,
All through the town.
The leaves on the trees make a crunching sound,
Crunching sound, crunching sound.
The leaves on the trees make a crunching sound
All through the town.
Let’s rake all the leaves into a mound,
Into a mound, into a mound.
Let’s rake all the leaves into a mound
All through the town.
The children in the town jump up and down,
Up and down, up and down.
The children in the town jump up and down
On the leaves on the ground.
