Pancake Breakfast and Art Show
Saturday, March 21st, from 8-10am, is our Pancake Breakfast and Art Show. We will be displaying art from every classroom, and the teachers will be cooking and serving up a yummy FREE breakfast to say "Thank you" and "We love you" to all of our families. Hope to see you all there!
Paddy Hough Parade
This Tuesday, March 17, we will be marching  in the Paddy Hough Parade after school. We have participated in this parade for quite a few years. It is fun to walk in the parade, throw candy to spectators, and get some sunshine and fresh air. The parade begins at 12:30, and we are waiting to hear where we are in the parade line up. If we are near the beginning, we may release from school a little early. We will let you know. We will meet in front of Hough Elementary located at 1900 Daniels, just a few blocks south of our school. Parking can be a bit tricky, as the parade route is closed to traffic. You might want to carpool from Little Acorn. It usually takes about 45 minutes to walk the parade. Please feel free to bring strollers, wagons, or other wheeled transportation for the kids, if you would like. All parents and siblings are welcome!
Last Week and This Week - Mo Willems - AGAIN!
Last week the kids had so much fun reading Pigeon books that we spent the whole week having fun making pigeons, talking about the pigeon, and reading our favorite stories SEVERAL times! This week we will be focusing on Elephant and Piggie. They discover they are in a book, try to surprise each other, and learn about waiting. We will be doing some fun projects, as well as getting our art ready for the pancake breakfast and art show. We hope to see you all there!
Reading Groups
Our first week of meeting in our reading groups was so much fun. I hope you have enjoyed the books and worksheets that have come home. I'll be sending home some tips about reading with your child in the packets next week. Please let me know if at any time the books or work coming home seem to easy or hard for your child. Reading is a lifelong skill and should be fun. I don't ever want the kids to be discouraged or bored. Let's work together to help them succeed!

Word Wall - Letter U
This week we will be focusing on the letter U for up, under, and umbrella. Please help your child find something that begins with the letter if they would like to bring in something for sharing. Thanks!

Library Fieldtrip
We will be going on a fieldtrip to the Vancouver Library on March 26th. ALL Butterfly class students are invited to attend, even if you don't normally come to school on Thursdays. We will meet at the library, and a story time with a children's librarian, then have some time to play and look for books. Looking forward to seeing you all there!

Seussical Jr.
As a school, we will be attending Seussical Jr. on Tuesday May 19. They play begins at 9:30am at the theater at Fort Vancouver High School. Tickets cost $6 each. Keep an eye out for the sign-up sheet outside the classroom next week.
Lego Auction Basket
The Butterfly classroom is putting together a Lego basket for the school auction in April. We are collecting items for our basket from this Monday the 23rd, through Monday April 2nd. Bricks, books about Legos, Lego sets, Lego toys, Lego movies - anything Lego. If you would like to donate to our basket, please bring the items in to the classroom. If you would prefer to donate cash towards the purchase of items for the basket, you can give it to either Teacher Jaylene or Teacher Sally. Thanks!

Our annual LAPSK Auction will be held Saturday, April 18th at Big Al's. Tickets go on sale March 16th and will be $18/person or $34/couple until April 10. After the 10th, tickets will be $22/person and $40/couple. This is an adult-only event. Families who purchase auction tickets will receive free bowling coupons.

Usborne Book Fair
This is the last week for our Usborne Book Fair. The efair code is: https://n3313.myubam.com/64160. Usborne has some amazing and beautiful books. Check it out!

Coming Up
The week of March 23 - 27 our theme will be Eric Carle. If your child has any favorite Eric Carle books they would like to bring in for the week to share and read, feel free to bring them in this coming week, so we can prepare our lessons for the following week. Learning always is so much deeper and meaningful when the kids have a connection to the topic. We will make sure books are labeled and returned promptly. Thanks!
